2015 8-6A Discussion Thread

Surprisingly 8-6A Teams did not farewell on opening night of the 2015 season as the Cedar Hill Longhorns were the only winners while DeSoto awaits to play its opening game against Arlington Martin on Saturday.

That is not that surprising. One surprise to me. I would have thought Mansfield would have done better. GP is not a good team, but neither is Haltom. Could have gone either way. The other games were about the level of opponent. Waxahachie is a good 5A program, so that is not surprising at all. Skyline is a very good team so that is not surprising. Arlington was a playoff team last season, Duncanville was not.

The other games were about the level of opponent. Waxahachie is a good 5A program, so that is not surprising at all. Skyline is a very good team so that is not surprising. Arlington was a playoff team last season, Duncanville was not.

SGP had 5 penalties in the first series but cleaned it up after that. No punting issues like they had last year. Too many drops and a few over throws. Compared to early last year the SGP D looks improved. The missing piece on offense so far for SGP is what was missing for a stretch last year, their star WR Jaelen Austin now at TCU. Greg Eisworth is a top player bound for Ole Miss in January. He can run and has a gun for an arm. But the WRs need to step up. This said credit is due to the Skyline D. Eisworth is mobile but was a double edged sword in a Romoesque way.

SGP must impress this week. Assuming just because CHill dominated that SGP will have success is not a good idea. SGP won a big game last year against a solid SOC team. It IS possible that SOC rebounds. SGP needs to start clicking. The Martin versus Skyline game will be revealing,

This was a great win. SGP could have packed it in at half down 20 - 7. Instead they did not allow a 2nd half score and scored 3 times. A character win.

I did not get to attend this week. At the last minute life intervened. They scored on the opening kickoff and recovered a fumble for a scores for 14 of those points. SGP did the same however. It was all run run run. Which is a little surprising albeit not shocking as SGP did fairly well in previous games in this area. I would guess loading the box would slow this down but again I was not at the game.

Very good insights. SGP has to play the best game of the year. They play the way they played against Martin and they have a great chance.
