RICHARDSON, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' sophomore soccer player Kami Jones was named the American Southwest Conference 2015 Distinguished Scholar-Athlete for the sport of women's soccer as voted on by the sports information directors in the conference.
Jones was the ASC offensive player of the year and also has a 4.0 GPA as a biochemistry/molecular biology major. She is the fourth straight Cowgirl to win the award. She scored 25 goals on the year and had 16 assists and led the Cowgirls to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
HSU's other nominees for each sport were Paige Goen (women's cross country), Conlan Aguirre (football), Rowan Meyer (men's soccer) and Lauren Wish (volleyball).
The Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Teams recognizes student-athletes who achieve a high level of academic achievement (a 3.20 grade-point average or better) while competing as a starter or important reserve on their team. From that list - limited to one nominee per school in each ASC championship sport - the sports information directors from the 12 ASC member institutions select a Distinguished Scholar-Athlete in each sport.
