ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team could cool off a hot-shooting Concordia team in a 76-56 loss on Saturday in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex.
Kourtney Holyfield had 10 first quarter points as the Cowgirls took a 16-14 lead after the first quarter.
Concordia used a 15-5 run to take a 31-23 lead with 3:17 to play in the second quarter on a Ariana Marks 3-pointer. HSU closed the gap to 36-32 at halftime.
The Tornados shot 57.1 percent in the second half on 16-of-28 shooting to take control of the game. Concordia had a 46-26 advantage on points in the paint and 21-1 advantage in bench scoring.
Holyfield led the Cowgirls with 23 points. Addison Garcia added 12 points and Kayla Brown had 11.
Isis Johnson led three Concordia players in double figures with 16 points. Jaela Dejean had 15 points and Mercedes Ellison had 13.
HSU is now 8-12 on the year and 5-5 in ASC action. Concordia improved to 10-9 overall and 2-7 in league play. The Cowgirls will host Sul Ross State on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
