    HSU Cowboys Top UT-Dallas, 78-68

    RICHARDSON, Texas - Nathaniel Jack recorded a triple double to propel the Hardin-Simmons men's basketball team to a 78-68 non-conference win over Texas Dallas on Tuesday evening in Richardson.



    Jack, who usually plays on the inside for the Cowboys, slid over and played point guard with Christian O'Neal out with an injury. Jack scored 10 points, had 11 rebounds and recorded 11 assists.



    HSU hit three 3-pointers in an opening 17-9 run. The Cowboys still maintained a 38-29 lead with 1:56 to play in the half, but the Comets scored eight points in the final 1:32 to cut it to 38-37 at halftime.



    UTD used an 8-0 run from 11:31 to the 9:50 mark to take a 54-49 lead, its biggest of the game. The Cowboys responded with seven straight points, a layup by Jack, a 3-pointer by Caleb Spoon and Jack finished the run with a dunk in transition.



    The Comets took a 62-61 lead with 3:59 to play but the Cowboys finished with a strong closing kick. Spoon hit a 3-pointer with 3:29 to play and Dashun Dixon made a layup at the 2:49 mark to make it 66-62. Justin Jones then made back-to-back layups to make it 70-62 with 1:28 to play.



    HSU closed the game by making eight straight free throws in the final :49 to secure the win.



    The Cowboys had five players in double figures in the game. Duane Hopper led the Cowboys with 19 points. Caleb Spoon added 15 off the bench. Both Hopper and Spoon hit five 3-pointers in the contest for the Cowboys. Dashun Dixon and Cameron Barnes added 14 points each.



    HSU hit 14 3-ponters in the game and the Comets had 15. HSU was able to separate by forcing 21 turnovers and the Cowboys only committed nine on the night.



    Caleb Banks led the Comets with 17 points and Dapo Ogunfeitmi added 15.



    HSU is now 14-8 on the year and will host crosstown rival McMurry on Saturday at the Mabee Complex. UT-Dallas fell to 15-6 on the season.
