As we've been saying for a while, the Abilene High Eagles are having a great season, and newcomer Austin Johnson is helping to lead the way.
The 6'7", 280 pound post player transferred to Abilene High this year from Plano, and he's been a great addition.
He's dominant on the court, and head coach Don Hesseman says he's been an asset off the court, as well.
Coach Heseman said, "I think his heart is even bigger than he is. I just love his personality and his character even more than the amazing basketball player that he is, and when you have him on the inside and shooter like Chris Castel and Peyton Killam and Avery Griffith and Diamond Gary on the outside, it just makes us more difficult to prepare for."
Johnson added, "I love the game, you know it kept me out of trouble. One year I was just going to be out of it , and then I found basketball, and ever since then the love for it, I just continued to want to play it."
Johnson and the Eagles are the district champions with two games to play.
They host San Angelo Central on Friday night at Eagle Gym.
