The biggest story this year is the emergence of the ACU women as the best team in the Southland Conference.
Head coach Julie Goodenough's team is at the top of the conference with an 11 and 1 record. It's been a long hard grind over the last two months, and the Wildcats finally get a break this week with seven days between games.
The players wouldn't mind continuing to play, but coach Goodenough is a fan of the time away from the competition.
"Our bye could not have come at a better time. I think that our kids really need to kind of purge mentally," Goodenough said. "It seems like we've had so many games back-to-back-to-back that they've got a lot of information in their minds. We require them to learn a lot about our opponents, so we need a week just to kind of focus on ourselves."
"I don't really like bye weeks because we always just like playing," junior Suzzy Dimba said. "We just want to keep rolling, but it's going to be really good for us to get to work on ourselves and not have to worry about learning stuff about other teams, so it'll be good for us to just work on defense and get some shots up while we have a break."
The Wildcats continue their quest to win the Southland regular season title on Wednesday against Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
