ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team beat McMurry, 76-65, to sweep the season series between the crosstown rivals.
Both teams came out hot and the Cowgirls held a 20-18 lead after the first quarter and held the same two-point lead 35-33 at halftime.
HSU opened up the game in the third quarter. The game was tied at 37 when HSU went on an 11-3 run to take a 48-40 lead. The Cowgirls never trailed after that spurt and continued to add to the lead. Jasmine McClellan's layup at the end of the third quarter gave the Cowgirls a 57-48 lead heading into the final frame.
Kourntey Holyfield's 3-pointer with 4:32 to play gave the Cowgirls a 70-53 lead, the biggest lead of the game and HSU closed out the game.
The Cowgirls had six players in double figures, including all five starters. Heidi Schroeder and Kourtney Holyfield had 14 points each, Danie Mabry had 12 points and Addison Garcia, Kayla Brown and Madison Spears all had 10 points. Spears added 11 rebounds for her first career double-double.
Haley Welch led McMurry with 15 points and Taylor Russell had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
HSU is now 10-13 on the year and will play at Concordia on Thursday in its next action. McMurry fell to 5-17 on the year.
