The Merkel Lady Badgers are heading to the Area Round of the playoffs after their 42-36 win over Sonora Monday night in San Angelo.
In the second quarter, the Lady Badgers were trailing by three, but cut into the lead when Karsen Sutterfield got her shot to go to make it a one point game.
Later in the quarter, Sonora's Sky Jennings laced in a three to extend the Sonora lead to six.
But the Lady Badgers kept fighting in this one. Abigail Lally got the feed in the paint. She was able to put it in to cut Sonora's lead down to four.
Merkel went on a 12-0 run in the second to move in front, and they were able to hang on for 42-36 win. They're moving on to the Area Round of the Class 3A playoffs where they'll take on Clyde.
