    CHS Swimmer Headed to State

Cooper High School's Jayden Curtis is getting ready to head to the state meet, and that is something that no swimmer has done since
Curtis finished second in the regional meet by nine one-hundredths of a second. He is one of the fastest sprinters in the state, and the Cougar's senior would love to bring a gold medal back to Abilene.
"It would be cool if I brought back a medal, and it would be really cool if I brought back a medal," Curtis said. "We were just sitting there at the table after practice, and I got the call that said I was going to state, and I looked at Joe, and I was like 'I'm going to State!' I can't really explain it."

"Being in Abilene we knew it was going to be a process to try to get our teams to go to state," coach Casey Pacheco said. "Usually a lot of your state kids are club swimmers, so a lot of our high school kids come in brand new to the sport. So, we know it's a process getting them out. So, Jayden making it and being the first kid since 2010 has been pretty exciting for us."

The class 5A state swimming and diving meet starts on Friday morning. The swimming prelims begin at 10 a.m., and the finals are Saturday morning.
