2016 Trip To State Is Special For Wylie

The Wylie Lady Bulldogs are goign back to Class 4A State Tournament again this year.

This is the Lady Bulldogs sixth appearance in the last seven years and eleventh overall.

This year's trip may be a little more special for the Lady 'Dogs than in other years for the simple reason that it's been hard.

They overcame a district loss to Brownwood, an injury to Brittany Brewer, and three tight games in the the playoffs.

Kurt Richardson said, "They have fought so hard through the playoffs. Throughout the season we've had adversity, and we played through it. It's just rewards for how hard they've worked. I would much rather be in this position than somebody who's just glad to be there. We had girls that were upset because they didn't play great until the game ended, and then they realized that we're still playing, and they want to go out playing their best, and they know that we're playing well right now, but we still haven't played our best game. They're excited about the opportunity to get to do that again."

Wylie enters the tournament with four state titles. That's more than any of the other Final 4 teams.

The Lady Bulldogs play in the state semifinals on Friday against Waco La Vega at 1:30 p.m.
