    Jones Named All-ASC, Defensive Player of the Year

    RICHARDSON, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team had four players honored by the American Southwest Conference in the annual postseason coaches awards that were announced on Monday.



    Junior center Justin Jones was named to the five-player all-ASC team that is the top players from both divisions. All other awards are elected on a divisional basis.



    Jones was also named the defensive player of the year in the ASC West. He was the co-defensive player of the year last season. He led the league and leads all divisions of NCAA basketball with 119 blocked shots. He averaged 12.5 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. He was also on the all-defensive team and named first-team all-ASC West.



    Nathaniel Jack joined Jones on the all-ASC West first team and was also on the all-defense team. Jack averaged 11.6 points and 11.3 rebounds per contest. He also led the team with 45 steals and is second in blocked shots with 17 and assists with 91.



    Juniors Christian O'Neal and Duane Hopper were named all-ASC West honorable mention. O'Neal led the team with 13.3 points per game and also had 117 assists. Hopper averaged 10.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.



    The all-ASC team consisted of Anthony Gaines of Louisiana College, Bret Atkins of East Texas Baptist, Alex Harrison of Sul Ross State, Josh Berard of Ozarks and Jones.



    Harrison was the ASC West MVP, Caleb Thomasson of Sul Ross State was the newcomer of the year and Brock Anders of Sul Ross State was the freshman of the year and Lobo coach Cliff Carroll was the coach of the year. Gaines was the ASC East MVP.
