    ACU's Mason Earns Southland Honor

    FRISCO, Texas - Abilene Christian junior guard Alexis Mason has been named Southland Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the fourth time this season presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league office announced Monday.



    Alexis Mason pushed her Southland Conference double-figures scoring streak to 16 games with 23 points versus Houston Baptist and 21 points against New Orleans this week as the Wildcats pushed their overall win streak to six games. Mason has scored 20 or more points in seven league game this season. She shot 73.7 percent from the floor and 72.7 percent from the 3-point arc and free-throw line this week. Mason leads the Southland in conference scoring with 20.3 points per game, is top-10 in steals (2.0), field goal (.472) and 3-point field goal percentage (.385) and is top-20 in rebounding (5.9) and assists (2.4).



    Honorable mention this week goes to McNeese State sophomore forward Frederica Haywood, Stephen F. Austin junior guard Taylor Ross, Central Arkansas junior guard Maggie Proffitt, Southeastern Louisiana senior forward Nana Pool and Northwestern State senior guard Janelle Perez. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland women's basketball sports information directors.



    Each school's sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player.
