Eagles Need Players To Step Up In 2016

The Abilene High Eagles are getting ready for this week's tournament here in town, and the 2016 Eagles look quite a bit different than the 2015 version.

Most of the starting lineup is gone, including Conner Nichols, Derek Scott, Mark Pierson, and Payton Coffman, who went to NCAA Division I schools.

Those are big shoes to fill, but the Eagles are working hard to get it done.

Coach Ryan Lewis said, "Well I don't know that you're ever going to replace guys like that. The way you do it is ytou try to be more consistent throughout from one through nine through the lineup. It's a different team. This is there team. It's not last years team, and we want these guys to make their own mark."

Hill Holloway said, "Of course you can't replace those guys that were on the team last year, and obviously that's a hard task to do, but to be honest with you, we haven't thought about that. We've just come out here and we love the game. We have a bunch of guys that are very unselfish, and they just love playing the game because it's the game."

The Eagles continue the season on Thursday in the Abilene Tournament.

Abilene High opens district play next Tuesday on the road against San Angelo Central.
