PINEVILLE, La. - Hardin-Simmons' softball team fell 2-1 in an American Southwest Conference pitcher's duel with Louisiana College on Monday evening at Coca-Cola Field in Pineville, La.
Both starters were solid in the contest. Tori Rodriguez allowed only two runs on four hits in six innings of work to fall to 6-6. Sevannah Settle allowed just one hit and an unearned run in five innings of work. Darian Thacker came in and worked the final two innings for the save. Settle improved to 10-1 on the year.
LC scored their only two runs in the third inning. Morgan Wampler and Regan LeJune had RBI singles in the third inning.
HSU cut the deficit in the sixth when Sydnie Darden reached on a two-base error and she moved to third on a ground out and scored on a squeeze bunt by Braleigh Middleton.
KeAmbria Hunter had the only hit for the Cowgirls. Four different Wildcats had singles.
HSU is now 9-10 on the year and 5-10 in conference action. Louisiana College improved to 14-4 overall and 12-3 in league play. LC won the tightly-contested series two games to one.
The Cowgirls will host Sul Ross State in a doubleheader on Thursday at 1 p.m.
