Season-Best 15-Hit Attack Propels McM to Victory

ABILENE, Texas - McMurry University baseball earned its fifth-consecutive victory by a 15-3 score over Southwestern Assemblies of God University at Walt Driggers Field. The non-conference win also got the War Hawks (8-8) back to the .500 level.

McM piled up a total of 15 hits, the most in any game this season, in the contest shortened by the 10-run rule in the seventh inning. The 15 runs against the Lions (9-19) were the second-most amassed in a game by the War Hawks, as well.

There was little doubt as to the outcome of this bout, as McMurry chased SAGU starter Sal Rico after just one-third of an inning. In the bottom of the first, the War Hawks sent 12 batters to the plate and amassed eight runs before fans had barely settled into their seats.

McM added a single run in the third inning, as well as three runs each in the fourth and sixth frames. The Lions scored once in the top of the fourth and two more runs in the seventh.

McMurry used a total of five pitchers in the outing. Starter Tyler Jenkins went 3.0 innings, allowing three hits and no runs, and striking out two. Aaron Donald - the third hurler of the evening for the War Hawks - threw a scoreless fifth inning to get credit for the win.

McMurry's hitting barrage was led by infielder Jordan Speck. Speck - who drove in the game winner last Sunday versus LeTourneau in a 1-0 contest - had a career-high five RBI against the Lions. Speck was 3-for-4 and cranked his first collegiate homer run - a three-run blast - in the bottom of the sixth. He also drew a walk.

Third baseman Ty Kirk went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two runs batted in. Kirk had an RBI triple in the third and RBI double in the fourth for McM.

Leadoff man Kevin Garza was 2-for-2, with two runs and two RBI. He also walked once. Jenkins - also the designated hitter - was 2-for-3 with a run. Robert White also had two RBI, going 1-for-3.
