The Cooper Cougars fell to Lubbock Cooper in their district opener Saturday afternoon.
In the top of the second, the bases were loaded for the Pirates as Jay Garibay rips one into right scoring two runs. That put Lubbock Cooper up 2-0.
For the Cougars, future Red Raider Caleb Freeman stopped the bleeding getting J.R. Erwin to go down swinging, and that ends the inning.
On to the third inning, Austin Smith got a base hit into right scoring Zach Goodson.
The Pirates were able to get out of trouble as Logan Patterson picked up the strikeout to end the inning.
The Cougars were not able to get that first district win. They fell to Lubbock Cooper 3-2.
Cooper's next game is on Tuesday afternoon at Plainview.
