    Cowboys Sweep War Hawks

    ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' baseball team swept an American Southwest Conference series from McMurry with a doubleheader sweep on Friday afternoon at Hunter Field, winning 10-8 in game one and 6-3 in the nightcap.



    HSU has now won 13 of its last 14 games with the sweep of the War Hawks.



    Game 1

    HSU scored a pair of runs in the second on an RBI single by Caleb Jacques. Another run scored on a double play with the bases loaded. Colson Craddick made it 3-o with a solo home run in the third.



    HSU made it 6-0 with three runs. Zack de Luna had an RBI single, Jamie Ball an RBI double and Craddick had an RBI single.



    McMurry answered with five runs in the fifth to cut it to 6-5. Robert White, Tyler Jenkins and Danny Perkins had RBI singles, a run scored on an error and Ty Kirk had a solo home run.



    HSU responded with four runs in the fifth. Taylor Cooling had an RBI triple, de Luna an RBI single and a run scored on a wild pitch and a balk. McMurry added two runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh.





    Colton Spears earned the win with five and one-third innings, allowing five earned runs on nine hits. He is 4-2 on the year. Mike Richardson worked an inning and Taylor Cooling got the final two outs for his eighth save of the year.



    Garrett Johnson took the loss allowing four earned runs on 10 hits in four innings. Trent Walcott and Will Dunlap also worked out of the bullpen.



    Kevin Garza had three hits for McMurry and de Luna had three hits to push his hitting streak to 23 in a row. He also drove in two runs.



    Game 2

    In the second game Jacques put the Cowboys on the board with a three-run home run in the second inning and Cody Berryman had an RBI single in the third.



    McMurry scored twice in the fourth inning on a Matt chalk two-run single. HSU answered with a single run in the fourth on a Craddick RBI to make it 5-2. Ty Kirk had an RBI groundout in the sixth to make it 5-3 and HSU picked up an insurance run in the eighth on a de Luna sacrifice fly. He saw his school record 23 game hitting streak come to an end.



    Colt Ritzel was solid for the Cowboys with seven and one-third innings of work in his first career start. He stuck out eight and allowed just one earned run to move to 1-0 on the year. Garrett Reed worked the final inning and two-thirds for his second save.



    Cooling had three hits for the Cowboys and Jenkins, Perkins and Chalk each had two hits for the War Hawks.



    The Cowboys are now 15-7 on the year and 9-3 in ASC play. McMurry fell to 9-14 overall and 4-5 in league play. HSU will play at UT-Permian Basin on Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
