The Jim Ned Indians are currently one of the best teams in the state in class 3A.
The senior loaded squad ranks fifth in the latest state ranking, and it's no surprise.
The Indians are 16-1 this season, and have been putting up huge numbers including a 22-3 win over Grape Creek in Friday's district opener.
The ranking is well deserved for Jim Ned, but if you ask the Indians, they aren't focusing on it.
"It's awesome to be ranked number five, to look at your name and see your name up there, but it really doesn't matter right now," senior Will Doty said. "It's just a ranking, and we want to be number one at the end of the season is the real ranking we're worried about."
"We actually started the year hungry," head coach Vincent Lavalle said. "It's one of those things where we got knocked out of the playoffs early last year with a junior heavy team. We have a senior heavy team this year. I'm starting seven seniors, a junior, and a sophomore."
The Indians will continue district play Tuesday against Ballinger.
