ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' softball fell 4-2 in eight innings to LeTourneau in American Southwest Conference action at Ellis Field on Saturday afternoon.
LeTourneau took the lead in the second inning scoring a run on a wild pitch and a Kelsie Benson sacrifice fly. HSU responded with a run in the bottom of the inning on a RBI groundout by Christa Garcia.
Sarah Truelove tied the game for the Cowgirls in the sixth with an RBI double.
In the eighth inning, LeTourneau received a pair of home runs from Rachel Gauspohl and Benson to take the win.
Lara Ammermann fell to 4-7 allowing four runs on eight hits in seven and two-third innings. Genia Jones got the final out for HSU. Samantha Thomas started for LeTourneau and went an inning and one-third. Kayla Crosby worked the final six and two-thirds allowing only a run.
Sarah Truelove had three hits for the Cowgirls and Gauspohl had three hits for LeTourneau.
HSU is 14-17 overall and 10-14 in league play and have lost six straight games. LeTourneau improved to 16-16 overall and 14-13 in league play. HSU will play a doubleheader at ACU on Tuesday.
