    Cowgirls Drop Pair To LeTourneau

    ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' softball team dropped a pair of games on Friday afternoon against LeTourneau, 8-4 and 3-0, in American Southwest Conference action at Ellis Field in Abilene.



    LeTourneau scored two runs in the first inning including a home run to lead off the game by Kennedi Dillow and added three more runs in the third and sixth innings of the first game.



    Kayla Cosby allowed four runs off four hits hits and struck out one batter before being relieved by Samantha Thomas after just one and two thirds of an inning. Thomas would pitch the last out of the second inning before going on to pitch the remaining five innings. She gave up three hits and no runs to improve her record to 1-2.



    Tori Rodriguez allowed eight runs in five and two thirds innings for the Cowgirls to fall to 8-8. Olyvia Hamilton worked an inning in relief. Syndie Darden had two hits to pace the Cowgirls.



    In the second game, LeTourneau scored first after three scoreless innings, off a two-run home run by Macey Mize in the top of the fourth. Brianna Williams then had a solo home run in the top of the fifth. The Cowgirls had runners in scoring position all game and left nine runners on base.



    Lara Ammermann fell to 4-5 as she allowed three runs on five hits.



    Samantha Thomas improved to 2-2 with the two-hit shutout, striking out five. Ashley Burdine came on in relief for the Yellow Jackets and got the last out of the fifth inning and then pitched the remainder of the game earning her first save of the season. She finished with one strikeout and allowing only one hit.



    Katelyn Joyner led the Cowgirls with two hits. Five different LeTourneau hitters had one hit each.



    The Cowgirls are now 15-16 on the year and are now 10-13 in conference play. The Yellow Jackets improved to 15-16 and are now 13-13 in league play.



    The teams will close the series with a single game at noon on Saturday.
