Five Abilene High players are headed to the regional tennis tournament next week.
The mixed-doubles team of Rachel Funk and Lane Adkins and singles player Reagan Gabriel won the first district titles for Abilene High since 2013, and Jon Woodward and James Watson in second in district to advance.
It's the biggest group in recent memory to move on to regionals, and they are excited to be going to Arlington together.
Reagan Gabriel said, "I'm really excited. I think it will be a great experience, and just ot enjoy the last time with my team, and I think it will be a lot of fun."
James Watson said, "It's really exciting. I got to go last year. It's a blast. You get to see some great competition. It's just a great tournament."
Lane Adkins said, "It's really exciting. It's a great way to start out my high school experience. I'm just going to work hard to get just where I need to be, and Rachel's doing incredible this year, so that's really exciting."
The Region I-6A tournament starts on Tuesday and finishes up on Wednesday.
First and second place advance to the state tournament later in the month.
