Wylie Hosts Three Teams to Prepare for Regionals

The Cooper tennis team is sending two players to regionals and Abilene High is sending five and the Wylie Bulldogs are sending, an incredible, 14 players to the region I-4A tournament.

In order to get his players ready for regionals, head coach Brent Abilez brought in regional qualifiers from San Angelo, Abilene High and Jim Ned for practice matches.

The matches are being held as one last chance to prepare the Bulldogs for next week's tournament.

"The kids out here have the same goal. They all want to be state champs, so it's great," Abilez said. "It wasn't hard to put this together. A lot of us in the Abilene community are really close, and we're a tight nit group. The good thing is we can always call each other and rely on each other to set up some matches."

"It really is fun and nice to be able to practice before going to regionals with teams that are close to home but also really good," senior Lady Bulldog Morgan Schackmuth said. "It's good to have this practice and be able to prep."

"Now it's more just, it doesn't matter if you win or lose, it's more just to work on what you need to work on for regionals because right now if you lose, oh well, but if you lose at regionals your done," senior Bulldog Max Tadvick said.

The region I-4a tournament is still a ways off.

The Bulldogs play in Lubbock next Wednesday and Thursday.
