ACU Men's Hoops Signs Arkansas Guard

ABILENE - ACU head men's basketball coach Joe Golding announced Friday that he has signed point guard Trey Lenox to a binding letter-of-national-intent for the 2016-17 season.

Lenox - a native of Hot Springs, Ark. - is the second standout from Arkansas to join the Wildcats in as many seasons, following last year's addition of Southland Conference Freshman of the Year Jaylen Franklin.

Following his breakout sophomore season in 2013-14, Lenox began attracting the attention of NCAA Division I programs. In his last three seasons at Hot Springs High School, Lenox directed the Trojans to three straight 5A-South championships and back-to-back state semifinal appearances in his final two seasons.

As a senior, Lenox helped the Trojans to a 28-4 record by averaging 8.4 points, 4.3 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game. For his career, he averaged 10.0 points, 5.5 assists and 4.9 rebounds per game.

He led the Trojans to three 5A Southwest Conference championships and was a four-time all-state, all-conference and all-Garland County selection. He also played for the Arkansas Wings in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), and the Wings are traditionally one of the top AAU teams in the country.

"We're very excited to get another very talented player from the great state of Arkansas," Golding said. "He's coming to us from a great high school program where he's been very well coached, and he's played for an elite AAU team where he plays at a very high level. He's great leader and a winner and that's the kind of guy we want to build this program the right way."

What's They're Saying about Trey Lenox

"For the second consecutive year, ACU has come into Arkansas and signed an underrated player. Just like Jaylen Franklin, the scouts and rating services haven't given value for the talented player who will defend and handle the ball in pressure situations. Trey had other opportunities, but with Jaylen's success, the familiarity with the coaching staff and the vision the director of athletics has for the future of the program, he had a great feel for the university."

    Ron Crawford

    Founder of Arkansas Wings

"ACU is getting a leader and a floor general. He is a kid that will be committed to the program for four years. Trey has very high character and is a winner on and off the court. I cannot wait to see him in a ACU uniform."
