ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' baseball team finished off an American Southwest Conference series sweep of Louisiana College with a 13-3 run-rule win on Saturday at Hunter Field in Abilene.
HSU scored three times in the first inning on an RBI double by Jamie Ball, an RBI single by Colton Parker and an RBI triple by Cody Berryman.
Deauton Delgado homered in the second for LC and HSU responded with three runs on a wild pitch and sacrifice flies by Ball and Zack de Luna.
Colton Parker had his fifth home run of the series in the third inning and LC answered with an RBI single by Sully Martin. HSU put the game out of reach in the fourth with six runs. Ball had an RBI single, Parker a bases loaded walk, Berryman with an RBI single, and a two-run single by Elijah Perez.
Colt Ritzel earned the win for the Cowboys as he allowed just two runs over five innings of work and struck out seven to improve to 2-0 on the year. Austin Taylor took the loss for Louisiana College, allowing four runs in one-plus inning to fall to 0-1.
Cooling and Ball each had three hits for HSU and Ball and Parker drove in three runs for HSU. Martin had three hits for LC.
The Cowboys are now 21-12 overall and 15-6 in ASC play. LC fell to 9-23 overall and 4-14 in league play. HSU will play Sul Ross State on Tuesday.
