ABILENE, Texas - The campus of McMurry University will welcome plenty of guests this weekend, as the War Hawks' Athletics Department hosts a pair of championship events - the American Southwest Conference (ASC) Track & Field Championships and the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Central Region Tennis Championships - on Friday and Saturday, April 22-23.
Wilford Moore Stadium - and the Bobby Lee Carter Throws Complex - will play host to the two-day ASC track and field event for men's and women's teams. On Friday, a slate of preliminary races will step off beginning at 10 a.m. At 2 p.m., championship competition begins for four field events (pole vault, javelin, triple jump and hammer throw) and the 3000m steeple chase (6 p.m.) and 10,000m run (6:45 p.m.). Beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, competition in the other four field events (discus, high jump, long jump and shot put) will be contested, as well as then 5000m run. The on-track finals begin at 1 p.m. and conclude with an awards ceremony.
The Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center will be the host site for the NCCAA Central Region men's and women's tennis tourney for the third-consecutive year. The round robin-style competition begins on Friday at 8 a.m. and will featured a total of four matches, concluding with two bouts on Saturday. The three-team regional will include host McM, Dallas Baptist University and Oklahoma Baptist University.
