    Cowboys Split on Senior Day

    ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' baseball team split a doubleheader with Schreiner on Senior Day at Hunter Field, falling 7-6 in the first game before winning 8-6 in the night cap.



    Game 1



    The Cowboys scored on a Colson Craddick RBI single in the first before Schreiner added two runs in the second and another in the third to take a 3-1 lead. Brad Holmes had a solo home run and Ricky Canales an RBI single and J.C. Kruczkowski had an RBI double.



    HSU answered back with three runs in the third to take a 4-3 lead. Taylor Cooling led off the inning with a solo home run and Craddick added a two-run home run. Schreiner scored in the fourth on a Marco Carreon sacrifice fly to tie the game and took the lead in the fifth on a three-run home run by Tomas Garcia.



    HSU added a single run in the sixth on an Elijah Perez sacrifice fly and had a chance in the seventh. When Cooling led off with a single, Zack de Luna had a double and Jamie Ball was intentionally walked. Craddick then struck out, Colton Parker hit a sacrifice fly to left and Cody Berryman flew out to end the threat.



    Kolby Kitchens went the distance for Schreiner scattering eight hits and allowing six runs to improve to 3-3. Colton Spears took the loss for the Cowboys allowing 10 hits and six earned in four and two-third innings.



    Cooling, de Luna and Craddick had two hits each for the Cowboys and Garcia had three and drove in and scored three runs for Schreiner.



    Game 2



    Schreiner scratched first with a Sam Pisturi RBI single in the fourth, before the Cowboys exploded for seven runs on eight hits in the fifth. Cooling, Craddick and Ball had RBI singles before Colton Parker blasted a three-run home run. Caleb Jacques added an RBI double later in the inning.



    The Mountaineers scored four runs in the sixth on a Quintana two-run double and a couple of bases loaded walks. HSU added a run on an error in the sixth and Schreiner scored on a Quintana triple in the eighth.



    Colt Ritzel allowed just three hits over five innings to earn the win for the Cowboys. Garrett Reed, Blake Northrop and Cooling worked in relief. Cooling recorded the last five outs, three by strikeout for his 12th save of the year.



    Charlie Stewart allowed nine hits and six runs and struck out four to fall to 0-3 on the year.



    Ball had four hits for the Cowboys and Carreon and Osman Quintana had two hits each for Schreiner.



    HSU is 22-14 on the year and Schreiner fell to 12-28. HSU will play Sul Ross State in Midland on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
