GREENSBORO, S.C. - McMurry University baseball's three wins over University of the Ozarks last week earned one of the team's key contributors - third baseman Ty Kirk - recognition as the national Student-Athlete of the Week from the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA).
With McMurry facing a "must-sweep" situation against Ozarks to qualify for the NCCAA Regional Playoff, Kirk had his best series of the year and propelled the War Hawks to the needed sweep and playoff berth. The sophomore from Jacksboro, Texas batted .636 with seven hits, including two doubles and a home run.
Kirk had an on-base average of .615, a slugging percentage of 1.091, scored six runs, and drove in seven RBI's. He hit safely in all three of the big victories by the War Hawks.
The NCCAA Central Region tournament is slated to begin May 16 in Shawnee, Okla.
