    Pitching Staff Key for Cougars

The Cooper Cougars get the 2016 class 5-A playoffs started Friday night up in Lubbock.

The Cougars are playing a best of three series with the Dumas Demons.

Sometimes a team's pitching staff is exposed when it comes time for the playoffs which is a test for the pitching staff.

Teams who don't have a strong pitching staff could be in trouble, but the good news for the Cougars is with Caleb Freeman, Austin Smith and Zach Goodson, they have three solid pitchers.

"We have a lot of pitching, a lot more pitching than a lot of teams you can think of in the state of Texas, so going into a three game series it's always good to have four guys that can get up there and get some outs for us, and it's always good to have bats behind us and good defense," Goodson said.

"It's a lot less stress, a lot less worries, and even after that we still have more pitching after that, so it just continues, and we're able to just stay calm and relaxed and just play baseball," Smith said.

The Cougars and the Demons open Friday night at 8 at Lubbock Cooper High School.

The series continues in Lubbock on Saturday at 4 p.m.
