ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons junior tennis player Shayne Cook has been named to the 2016 Division III College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Women's Academic At-Large All-District VIII team as selected by the sports information directors in the district.

Cook, a junior tennis player from Abilene, was named the ASC West most valuable player and also sports a 3.94 GPA as a pre-physical therapy major. Players are voted to the team based on both their athletic and academic achievements.

The at-large division puts together sports that do not have their own contest and include athletes in golf, hockey, tennis, crew, gymnastics, fencing, skiing, lacrosse, swimming and diving and rifle.

District VIII consists of schools from California, Colorado, Iowa, Louisiana, Nebraska, Oregon, Texas and Washington.

The winners will go on the ballot for Academic All-American honors.
