Area Round New Territory for Cooper

The Cooper Cougars continue their run in the Class 5A playoffs Friday over in Odessa, which is new territory for the Cougars.
This is the first time Cooper is still alive in postseason in the second round since 2010.

It's a good feeling for head coach Cody Salyers, and the Cougars are hoping to carry it over to this weekend's series with El Paso Jefferson.

"Yeah you know, going to the playoffs and winning the first round, that's big for anybody, but my first year here, we're excited to be in this position," Salyers said. "It's one of those deals, we're in a good spot right now where we think we can make a run for several more rounds."

"It was great to win that first series, especially after last year getting swept by Randall in the first round, but I mean we're taking that as a big step in the right direction," senior Will Murray said. "Coach likes to tell us, it's one step closer to that state championship that all of us are looking forward to."

The Cougars start the area round Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Odessa High against El Paso Jefferson.

The series continues on Saturday in Odessa at 2:30 p.m.
