The Cooper Cougars played in the area round for the first time since 2010 Friday night.
The Cougars took on El Paso Jefferson in Odessa, and they clinched another big win.
Cooper led 5-0 in the fourth inning, and that was plenty of run support for Caleb Freeman.
Nick Rodriguez chopped one to short, but Brandon Miller made a tough play look easy that ended the fifth.
In the top of the sixth, E.P. Jefferson had runners on first and second, but Freeman was still dominant getting Matt Chacon swinging to end the inning.
The score held at five, and the Cougars win it 5-0.
Caleb Freeman had another strong outing for the Cougs. He went six innings to get the win.
Game two of this series is Saturday back in Odessa at 11 a.m.
