ABILENE, Texas - Four Hardin-Simmons baseball players were named to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-West Region teams for their efforts in the 2016 season.
Zack de Luna a junior second baseman and Taylor Cooling a utility player were both named to the first team. Jamie Ball and Colton Parker were each named to the third team, Ball as an outfielder and Parker as a designated hitter.
De Luna, a native of Pittsburg, Texas, led the Cowboys with a .413 batting average and had 78 hits, scored 47 runs and had 16 doubles with 36 RBIs. He also led the team with 17 stolen bases.
Cooling, a sophomore from Mont Belvieu, was named to the first team as a utility player. He ranks second nationally with 12 saves and went 2-1 with a 2.20 ERA on the mound. He was also the Cowboys leadoff man and shortstop. He hit .389 with an ASC-best 22 doubles and also set a new HSU record with 79 hits. He ranks sixth nationally in both hits and doubles.
Parker, a junior designated hitter from Decatur, was named to the third team. He led the Cowboys with 12 home runs and also drove in 34 runs while hitting .387. He led the Cowboys and was second in the ASC in slugging percentage at .739.
Ball, a senior outfielder from Morton, Miss., was also named to the third team. He hit .339 with 14 doubles, five triples, five home and was second on the team with 40 RBIs. He also stole seven bases and had six assists in the outfield.
