Stamford took the series against Albany in a 10-9 second game win at Abilene Christian University.
Stamford was ahead 6-1 in the top of the third, but lost the lead in the fourth when an error costed the Bulldogs two runs and gave the Lions the go ahead run putting the score 8-7.
In the seventh the Bulldogs tied the game at 8-8 and carried it into extra innings.
Two runs in the top of the eighth gave Stamford a 10-8 lead.
In the bottom on the inning, Albany fought to push in two more runs, but fell short only scoring a single run to end the game in a 10-9 defeat.
"I mean it's just like a heavyweight fight wasn't it," said Stamford head coach, Jeremy West. "I mean back and forth. Those guys, they weren't going to quit. We talked about it after the game, those guys were going to show up and give us everything they had, and they did. We found a way somehow to scratch a run and tie it, and then to come back in extras. Just a great job by those guys."
This win takes the Bulldogs to the team's first trip to the Class 2A State Tournament since 2013.
