Bulldogs Score 5 Runs in Comeback Over Godley

The Wylie Bulldogs made their fans nervous Friday afternoon in their one-game playoff with Godley up in Wichita Falls.

The Bulldogs jumped on the board in the first inning thanks to Mac Mueller's monster two-run blast over the left center fence, but they would not score another run for several innings.

Meanwhile, Godley led 4-2 by the third inning, and then added more to their lead.

Going into the top of the seventh the Wildcats led 5-2, but that's when Wylie took advantage.

The Bulldogs weren't ready for their season to end just yet. They scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning, and then finished the bottom of the frame with a double play to clinch their birth to state.

Wylie showed the kind of fight they have in this post season with the 7-5 victory, and they were proud of that fight.

"This was one heck of a game," Mac Mueller said. "This was one of the good comebacks, and one of the greatest moments of the year, and I think it'll be great, but hopefully it's overshadowed by one other big thing."

"You know everybody was afraid this was going to be it obviously, but the fact that we were able to keep our composure and continue to play," head coach Clay Martin said. "We talked about how we needed three runs. I thought we did a good job of executing on the base paths and then finally came up with some big hits."

The Bulldogs will find out on Sunday who they'll play down in Austin.
