Bulldogs Advance to State Championship Game

A two-run victory over Pleasant Grove means the Wylie Bulldogs are headed to the state championship game.

Zach Smith scored the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly hit by John Paul Tople in the first inning.

Then the Bulldogs had a big second inning scoring five runs to take the 6-0 lead.

Pleasant Grove had an answer the next inning, but only scored two runs. Wylie led 6-2.

Wylie added their final run of the game in the fourth inning, but Pleasant Grove fought to make it a close game.

In the top of the sixth, the Hawks scored three runs to make it a two run game, and left one man stranded to end the top of the sixth.

Wylie held on to their lead and took the game 7-5, and head coach Clay Martin and the guys are pumped.

"Oh I mean it's just really exciting. It's a really exciting time of the year and to be able to come away with a victory at this level is always an exciting thing, and I think it's going to be a great deal to be in that final game," Martin said. "You know it was a big game to put ourselves in the opportunity to play for a state championship. The Wylie community supports all of our athletic programs and to see all those little kids here and little leaguers, and you know, just people from all over here to help support and, you know, that was a huge key."

They Bulldogs will play in the state championship game Thursday evening at 6:30 against Salado.
