Bulldogs Clinch First Ever State Title

The Wylie Bulldogs clinched their first ever state championship Thursday evening with their 3-2 win over Salado.

The Bulldogs wasted no time in this one.

Mac Mueller got the start for the Wylie, and he started the first inning putting Salado away 3-up 3-down.

In the bottom of the first, John Paul Tople hit an RBI to score the first run of the game in the first inning.

Wylie added to the lead in the second with a run and added more in the third with another run.

The Bulldogs led 3-0 until the top of the sixth when Salado battled back to score two runs. One was when Mueller walked in a run.

Mueller did have a no-hitter until the sixth.

That inning ended with a double play from John Paul Tople.

With three outs away from a state championship, the Bulldogs held on to get it done and clinch their first ever state championship.

Here is the reaction after the game.

"It's a very nerve-racking experience for everybody, but when you don't have any control over it and you're coaching I think it's maybe even more so," head coach Clay Martin said. "Those guys preformed amazingly there at the end of the game, and to be able to in a situation where the tying run is on second, to clutch up and make the final out is huge. It's a great feeling to finally win this one, and I think it's just amazing to be in this setting in this situation to finally come through and win a State championship."
