The Hawley Bearcats are still trying to qualify for the state 7-on-7 tournament after losing in the semifinals to Stephenville last weekend.
Playing 7-on-7 is a great way for teams to stay in shape, grow closer together and just stay in a competitive frame of mind, but what about the injuries?
Even though 7-on-7 is only two hand touch, these guys play hard, so there is a chance for them to get hurt, but the Bearcats don't seem too worried about that.
"It's all, you know, it's always a scary deal, but, I think it's most of the time when the kids are playing hard, you know," head coach Mitch Ables said. "There not going to get hurt unless it's a freak deal, so just as long as we can get them to keep hustling then we'll be fine."
"Injuries are just what happens," quarterback Quay Stokes. "That's part of the game, and you just gotta find a way to fight through it."
Hawley continues their fight to qualify for state Saturday at the Jim Ned State Qualifying Tournament.
Eight other Big Country teams are in the tournament as well. Clyde, Eastland, Sweetwater, Merkel and Jim Ned are all still trying to qualify for state, and so is Ballinger.
Brownwood and Albany are also trying to qualify. They also played in the Brownwood SQT with Hawley.
Wylie will play in the tournament Saturday, but they have already punched their ticket to the state tournament.
