Sweetwater Uses 7-On-7 To Gain Experience

The Sweetwater Mustangs are among the droves of high school football teams.

Using the summer to get in some extra practice, teams take different approaches to 7-on-7.

Some try to win the games and don't worry about running the school's offense and defense, but that's not the Mustangs approach.

Head coach, Shane Mobley says his guys are using the Sweetwater playbook so they can get some experience before the fall season.

"You know, it is 7-on-7 and it's not football, you know, so to speak, but one thing we do with our group, offense and the defense is we run our stuff. So, we get out there and we come across some teams that like to run a lot the back out right up the pipe and some different things like that, but other than that it's great team building for our kids and it's great for our quarterback, you know, Chris on timing routes. You know, defense, we've got to make some exchanges and do some different stuff so they've got to communicate," said Mobley.

The Mustangs are headed to the state tournament next month. Division two starts on July 7th and finished up on the eighth.
