Football Players Take Advantage of Opportunities

Hardin Simmons hosted the state lineman challenge Saturday, and linemen from across the state competed in different kinds of competitions that are used to help them during the regular season.

The guys train all off season to get stronger and faster for the fall, and they take advantage of any opportunity to prepare for football season, so the lineman competition was no exception.

The guys say that competitions like this during the summer are kind of like practice.

"I feel like it's a really good team bonding experience, and it helps us show who the competitors are, and it really helps us increase our skills on all of these challenges," Actavias Lowry said. "Because all of these drills help you in football, and all these drills can help you in the game. We're really improving ourselves with it. It's kind of like practice."

"Different fundamentals, different footwork," Noah Perez said. "You try to get, like doing the bench press, flipping the tire, different fundamentals we can do to get better out there when we're blocking, rushing the quarterback, anything like that."
