The Olympics are a dream for almost every swimmer in the country.
For University of Texas swimmer, Madisyn Cox, that dream could become a reality.
Lubbock swim club coach, Trey Hayes, has known Madisyn Cox since she was five, including being her high school coach, and says she's always been a competitor.
"She's a special kid," says Hayes. "We came here 4 years ago and we thought what was going on but we were actually kind of clueless, now actually being a contender is just a lot of fun."
Cox swims for UT and will graduate in 2017, which is why her high school coach is honored to join her on the journey.
"She wanted to represent Lubbock and she actually told them when we were down at the high school state meet that she was gonna represent us," said Hayes.
With a relentless work ethic and swimming over seven thousands yards each practice, her high school coach says she has the heart and talent to make the team.
"What makes her or what separates her from everyone else is to what she's willing to put herself through with the last 25 meters of a race, she's willing to go that extra mile, dig down as deep as she can to beat whoever she can or do whatever she needs to do. I think in her mind she's always wanted to make championship finals at the Olympic trials and actually it actually happened", said Hayes.
Cox wants to be a neurosurgeon once she finishes up her swimming career, but for the next few years she has her eyes on the Olympics.
She continues the trials Thursday in Omaha where she will compete in the 200m breast stroke.
