Select soccer is making it's way to Abilene thanks to the FC Dallas professional team's player development system.
The U-12 girls team completed their tryouts and had their signing day today.
Head coach, Jacey Withrow, says that getting this team together came as a result of wanting to build up soccer in West Texas and Abilene.
Jacey Withrow said, "Some parents here kind of took initiative and started doing reach outs to the FC Dallas. Basically, in Abilene we just haven't had a whole lot of structure, and once we kind of saw and researched how FC Dallas West Texas was doint, it seemed like a good fit for this area, so basically I went to a meeting and started getting involved with those coaches."
Friday at Action Zone, coach Withrow and the team made their final cuts and the girls officially became a part of the FC Dallas organization.
Withrow said, "Yeah today is their tryout day and signing day, so they cannot become part of a team until July 1st. Just by the soccer rules. Today we can offer them contracts to become part of the FC Dallas team."
Although located in Abilene, the select team will play games out of Arlington.
