Karson Grisby Shares What He Does to Be a Successful Golfer

There's not a cloud in the sky. It's a beautiful, perfect summer day, and most middle schoolers would be at the pool with friends or out and about with their families, but not 12 year old Karson Grisby.

Instead he's working to improve his game. Karson is a golfer, and a successful one at that.

He has one several tournaments just this summer, and he practices every day.

"I'm always practicing 365 days a year basically," Grisby said. "If I'm sick I'll, we have a little indoor putting mat you can just roll out, and I can sit on my bed or something and do it."

Karson still has time to be a kid though. He has a solid group of friends to golf with and on top of that, he doesn't feel like it's work.

"It's not work to me. A lot of people say once you get on tour and stuff it's work," Grisby said. "You have to like it all to be good at it. There's really not a favorite. In golf it's all your favorite."

Golf is a frustrating sport to say the least, but Karson has used skills from another sport to help.

He still plays select soccer and told me that soccer trains him physically while golf trains his mental side, but he still has some struggles.

"For being such a young age my swing has't, you know kids I'm playing against, older kids they have a little more muscle. I mean yeah I could hit it out of the rough, I wouldn't hit it good, but I could get it out of the rough," Grisby said.

Last year, Karson shot a 79 on the West Texas tour, and he hopes to bring that down more this year.

"I'm proud of what I've done so far, and I like it. It definitely could be better," Grisby said.

Karson has more dedication as a 12 year old than some grownups have, and the Big Country should keep an eye out for big things from him.
