Wylie, Brownwood, Snyder, And Sweetwater Picked To Go To Playoffs

Texas Football Magazine says Wylie, Brownwood, Snyder, and Sweetwater are all headed to the playoffs in 2016.
The Wylie Bulldogs went to the Class 4A Division I semifinals in 2015, and they want to at least repeat that performance this season. For their part, Texas Football magazine expects the Bulldogs to come out of year with the District 3-4A championship in 2016. Head coach Hugh Sandifer returns a total of eight starters, which, if you know the history of the program, is a lot. Offensive lineman Kade Parmelly and defensive lineman Dion Novil are two of the top returners for the new year.

The Brownwood Lions are going through an unexpected coaching change. Chuck Howard stepped down in the offseason, and Kyle Maxfield takes over as the head coach. Maxfield was successful in Shallowater, and he inherits a Lion program that has twelve positions filled with starters from last years state quarterfinalist team that was half yard shy of beating Wylie in the quarters. McLane Moore looks like the he could be taking over at quarterback to start the season.

The Stephenville Yellowjackets are next in District 3-4A Division I in third.

The Snyder Tigers are picked to take the 4th and final playoff spot from the district.

Cory Mandrell is another new coach in the district. As a matter of fact, four of the five head coaches in the district are new to their team. Mandrell is a Snyder alum, and loaded with returners on the defensive side of the ball. Texas Football says they Tigers are set for a return trip to the postseason.

Big Spring is picked out of the playoffs in 2016. New head coach Clint Finly is the fourth and final new head coach in the district.

The Sweetwater Mustangs are the only Big Country school in Class 4A Division II, and they are picked to repeat as district champions in District 2-4A. Head coach Shane Mobley lost a lot of skill on offense, but eleven starters are back from a 2015 team that advanced to the third round of the playoffs. Chris Thompson is back at quarterback. He threw for over 17-hundred yards and 21 touchdowns last season.

Sweetwater is first in the district. Monahans, Midland Greenwood, and Pecos are expected to be the playoff teams from District 2-4A Division II. Fort Stockton, Seminole, and Lamesa are fifth, sixth, and seventh.

Three Big Country schools start the season in the Texas Football Class 4A Top 20's. Wylie is number five in the preseason, and the Brownwood Lions are eleventh in Division I. The Sweetwater Mustangs are right there in Division II. They start 2016 at number eight.
