USA Football will conduct a Heads Up Football Player Safety Coach clinic Saturday, July 9, at Abilene Christian University in Abilene, TX. USA Football will instruct Player Safety Coaches (PSCs) representing youth leagues across the region. PSCs will then teach Heads Up Football to their schools' and leagues' coaches, players and parents.
USA Football, the sport's national governing body and a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee, establishes important standards to advance the fun and fitness of football through the best available science.
USA Football's Heads Up Football program is endorsed by the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, the National Athletic Trainers' Association and more than four dozen other leading organizations spanning medicine and sport. Heads Up Football is a comprehensive approach to better teach and play the game. In addition to hands-on training, the program also features a pair of online curriculums: one for high school coaches and another for youth coaches. More than 1,100 high schools and nearly 70 percent of all U.S. youth leagues enrolled in Heads Up Football in 2015 for the good of their athletes. The program is endorsed by a combined total of 26 state high school athletic associations and high school football coaches associations spanning 21 states.
After completing the Player Safety Coach clinic training, these individuals will oversee their league's implementation of the USA Football program. Player Safety Coaches monitor practices and games throughout the season.
