McMurry Advances to Third Year of NCAA III Reclassification

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Membership Committee has informed McMurry University that it has advanced to the third year of the reclassification process. The current pace would put the War Hawks programs in full NCAA Division III eligibility beginning with the 2018-19 season.

However, just reaching the year-three point of the four-year process will reap immediate benefits for McM's scholar-athletes. The War Hawks are now eligible for American Southwest Conference (ASC) regular season team championships, while also vying for ASC individual titles in the sports of cross country and track & field. Additionally, McM competitors will be eligible for post-season individual awards (all-division, all-conference, player of the year, etc.).

McMurry Director of Athletics Sam Ferguson was informed of the NCAA's decision, after completion of the school's Annual Report to the membership committee. Once McM reaches full membership status, the War Hawks will be eligible for NCAA III post-season competitions, as well.

"I'd like to thank the NCAA Membership Committee for their help and guidance during this process and for advancing us to year three," Ferguson said. "But I also owe a tremendous 'thank you' to our coaches and staff for all of their hard work in the process. Their efforts recruiting great scholar-athletes and modeling the Division III philosophy was truly what was made our Annual Report a success in the committee's eyes. We are another step closer to becoming eligible for NCAA championships because of their hard work."
