7-On-7 State Tournament Continues in College Station

The Division II 7-on-7 State Tournament finished up Friday, but Division I just got started.

At the Division I level, Abilene High and Cooper started pool play in College Station, and the Eagles had a very good day against Cedar Hill.

Peyton Killam found Qua'shawn Washington down near the goal line, and on the same drive, Killam swung it out to Abram Smith on the far side.

Abilene High won the game by nine, and they went on to win three straight to win the pool. They face Foster on Saturday morning.

The Cooper Cougars had a good day as well. They took on Copperas Cover to start the tournament.

Austin Smith found Juwan Hong who got a first down that led to a Cooper touchdown.

Later in the game, Smith went deep to Myller Royals for another touchdown, and the Cougs went on to take the game 38-33.

They beat Mesquite in the pool play finale to clinch a spot in the championship bracket that starts at 9 a.m. Saturday against Manvel.

In the Division II tournament, Sweetwater took on Palestine in the championship bracket.

Sweetwater led 21-14 when Chris Thompson connected with Luke James for a great catch and first and goal for the Mustangs.

Thompson also found Jacoby Hunt for a touchdown putting the Mustangs up 27-14, and that was the deciding score in the game.

The Mustangs won their first round game, but fell to Wharton in the second round 26-25.

The Wylie Bulldogs were in the championship bracket too, but they lost in the first round to Kaufman 24-13.

Brownwood, Snyder and Albany all played in the consolation bracket, and they all lost in the first round.
