USA Football Holds Youth Coaches Clinic at ACU

The West Texas Youth Football league partnered with USA football today at ACU to help train players and coaches about safety tactics to help make the game safer for the players.

This is the first year that the Head's Up program has come and spoken to the WTYF, and the four hour course is designed to train the youth coaches, who are parents and volunteers, how to better coach their players in order to reduce injuries.

USA Football instructor Roy Thompson was on hand to show different tackling techniques as well as lecture in class about hydration and other safety factors.

"USA Football is a national organization that deals with youth leagues and Heads Up Football, and the youth league here in Abilene decided to partner with us, to join our program, so it's really awesome to be here today," Thompson said.

"This is our second year being involved with USA Football, but this is the first year that they have brought the clinic here to Abilene, so partnering with John at AYSA, we were able to get that here in Abilene to bring all our coaches here," WTYF President Chris Gutierrez said.

Gutierrez hopes that bringing Heads Up to Abilene will increase safety in the youth leagues.
