7-On-7 Ends for Cooper and Abilene High

Abilene High and Cooper finished their runs for the 7-on-7 State Championship on Saturday.

The Eagles had a great run today. Starting with their last game of the day against John Tyler.

In the second half, Peyton Killam finds Qua-shawn Washington in the end zone for their second touchdown in a row, which put the Eagles up 35-21.

John Tyler tied it and sent the game to overtime. Moving on to the fourth overtime where Bryson Smith connected with Josh Weaver for a touchdown, and they led 60-54.

The Eagles had one last chance to get the win, and on fourth down, Killam launched it deep into the back corner for David Russell, but it's incomplete and with that John Tyler took the game 60-54 ending Abilene High's 7-on-7 season.

To get to that game, the Eagles beat Foster 34-19 and Waxahachie 26-14 Saturday morning.

Cooper was also in action against Manvel.

The Cougs had a great run during pool play, but came up short in the championship bracket.

At the half, Cooper trailed 28-8 then they tried to start a rally.

Ender Freeman connected with Shaun Watson who made a great grab in traffic for the Cougar touchdown, despite pass interference. Manvel led 28-14.

Manvel looked to answer, but a big play by the Cooper defense was when Brandon Boshears got a big interception.

That was as close as Cooper could make it..

On the ensuing possession, Freeman looked for Jwan Hong in the end zone, but he was picked off by Manvel.

Manvel dominated Cooper 50-14 ending Cooper's 7-on-7 state run, but the guys can now turn their attention to the coming season.
