Wylie's 2015 All-State defensive lineman Dion Novil returns for the 2016 season, and he's been getting a lot of summer work in.
Novil had 44 tackles and 5 sacks in 2016, and this summer he has been balancing football and basketball.
Dion Novil said, "Well the summer helps a bunch because the summer I have a lot of time where I can play 7-on-7 and 7-on-7 in the summer and me playing basketball in the summer, that helps balance it because I still have time to play both."
During 7 on 7, Novil spent some time at the tight end position, a different look for the 6-3 260 pound guy, but Head Coach Hugh Sandifer says this switch has been good for his agility and quickness.
Hugh Sandifer said, "It's fun watching him get out and run some, play tight end. You know, not many 260 guys out here playing 7-on-7, so it gives him an opportunity to work on his agility, his quickness and you know, he's going to be a big player for us, so hopefully we can use him some at the tight end, and when he's coming out here playing like this it'll help him get some confidence for that."
Novil, another true team player hopes to help push his team to get better as the season goes on, and then of course to win state.
Novil said, "Well the ultimate goal is definitely to go to state. That's the ultimate goal, but as far as the team, I just would like the team to push themselves even more. Push each other and just come together as a group again, and it'll be fun."
Dion Novil is a BCH Sports Player to Watch.
