Abilene High's 6-2 202 pound running back Abram Smith is ready to play this 2016 season.
Smith rushed for over 1000 yards in 2015, that's after coming back from an injury. Smith used his games last season to get stronger mentally and physically.
"It started out I was a little timid," Smith said, "As the games progressed, my mindset had to get stronger. You know, I had to know that I was going to be able to work with it, and just simple stuff like that. Just overall just healing it, getting my speed going, getting the power, and just basics like that."
He has continued to get even stronger this summer.
Smith said, "This summer going on, just going to work some more on it, and put some more power, put some more speed on it."
Smith has already committed to play college ball at Tulsa, and he says his decision to take his game there was a pretty easy one.
"First I went there on a visit, and I mean they made it feel like home, it was just home away from home. It was like family there," Smith said. "As soon as I got there, all the coaches were talking like we were old friends or something, and I just loved that. I mean we have that here at Abilene High, so going there it's like I didn't move at all."
But Smith still has one season left with the Eagles, and his goal, to get stronger individually and help take his team farther into the playoffs
Smith said, "My ultimate goal, I mean is just to get stronger. As I move on to the next level it's just to get stronger, and hopefully go higher in the playoffs and just win with my team, you know be a good team leader to them, and help them improve."
Abram Smith is a BCH Sports Player to Watch.
